Zion is our Junior High ministry at Anthem Chapel. Whether students have never been to church or have been going their whole life, we invite all 7th and 8th grade students to be a part of Zion.

Our name comes from the Bible, where Zion refers to both a physical place and a spiritual experience of God's presence. At Zion, our mission is to create a safe and fun space for any junior high student in our area to discover who God is and experience His incredible love for them.

Every week we host events that give students the opportunity to hang out, have fun, and grow in their faith. Our vision is to see a community of junior high students learning to love and live like Jesus surrounded by friends, mentors, and families.

You can subscribe below to our weekly newsletter to stay up to date with everything we have going on for 7th and 8th grade students.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

Wednesday Nights!

Sunday Mornings!

6:30PM - 8:30PM
at Anthem HQ

9:30AM - 11:00AM
At Goleta Valley Junior High

What to expect: After checking into youth group we'll spend some time hanging out with friends and leaders. Then we play a fun game, sing songs, learn about God, and talk about life in small groups.
What to expect: We start by singing songs with the whole church and then break out for a junior high specific time. We share highs and lows, read the Bible, talk about God, and spend time in prayer.

OUR PLAN FOR DISCIPLESHIP:

Weekly Meetings!

Between Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings, our students have the opportunity to read scripture, hear the good news of Jesus, pray, ask questions, talk about life, and spend time in Christian community. We believe that consistently engaging in these practices helps us love and live like Jesus.

Camps!

Every summer we spend a week at Hume Lake and every winter we do a weekend trip to Hume SoCal. Time and time again we see that these experiences are deeply impactful in our students' lives. They create spaces to encounter God, form meaningful friendships, and make lifelong memories. Summer camp this year will be June 21-27.

Monthly Events!

We believe God designed us to thrive in community. Every month we plan events focused on having fun, making friends, and growing in faith together. Our weekly newsletter is the main way we communicate what's happening in our youth group so sign up below.

Lunch Clubs!

We help run Gospel-centered meetings at our local junior high schools. These clubs are student run and supported by local churches and ministries. We hang out, play a fun game, talk about Jesus, give out a raffle prize, and pass out snacks. You can find us at Goleta Valley Junior High every Monday in Room 309 and at La Colina every Tuesday in Room 502.

C-Groups!

C-Groups at Anthem Chapel are designed for deeper connection, meaningful relationships, and growing in your faith. These are smaller groups that meet outside of our youth group or Sunday service. They are centered around Community, Connection, and Christ. Reach out to our Junior High Youth Pastor about the groups we have running right now!

Service!

Serving others is a key way in which we become more like Jesus. The main way we encourage junior high students to serve is by helping with Anthem Kids on Sundays. You can email michaela@anthemchapel.com with any questions or to get on the schedule. Other ways students can serve is through missions trips or joining our student leadership team.

Parent Resources!

We believe parent's are the most important spiritual influences in a child's life. We've provided some resources below to support you as you disciple your teenager and would love to hear other ways we can support you too!

Volunteer with Zion!

Caring adults are an essential part of young people's faith.  We are always looking for young adults and college students who love Jesus and want to show up in the lives of junior high students. We are also in need of older believers who want to partner with us through prayer and provision. If you are interested in serving on our adult leadership team or supporting Zion in another capacity, please schedule a meeting with our Junior High Pastor.

Meet with A Pastor!

Monty Minchin is our Junior High Youth Pastor at Anthem Chapel. He loves to teach God's word and create opportunities for students to grow in their relationship with Jesus. He would love to meet up with you and discuss anything about our youth ministry or your student. You can reach him by email at monty@anthemchapel.com.
For in Scripture it says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone,

and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
